Proven Success for Saving Implants

The LAPIP™ protocol is a minimally invasive approach to treating ailing and failing dental implants.

The LAPIP™ protocol is the only patient-friendly, predictable solution for ailing implants. Studies indicate 95% of implants with peri-implantitis treated with the LAPIP™ protocol have reintegrated in the pocket and stabilized with bone growth of 3-8 threads.

LAPIP™ Treatment Can Help Protect Your Implant Investment

  • Stop progression of peri-implant disease
  • Destroy bacteria causing inflammation
  • Save healthy gum tissues
  • Encourage new bone growth

Peri-Implant Disease Mimics Periodontal Disease

Implants themselves can’t become diseased but the tissue around implants can become infected. Just as periodontal disease (gum disease) starts with minor inflammation that progresses if not treated, peri-implant disease starts as peri-mucositis (minor inflammation around the implant). If left untreated, the inflammation continues until the bone around the implant erodes and the implant becomes loose. Several different factors can trigger the initial inflammation, including existing periodontal bacteria, foreign materials wedged in your gums around the implant, and even implant connectors that misalign.

Signs/Symptoms of Moderate-to-Advanced Peri-Implantitis

  • Swelling in the gums
  • Implant mobility
  • Bleeding gums
  • Change in gum color surrounding implant
  • High gum sensitivity
  • Implant exposure (gum recession prevents adherence to the implant or crown surface)
  • Mild to severe pain around implant site
  • Excretion of pus from the implants surrounding tissues

Benefits of Treating Peri-Implant Disease with the LAPIP™ Protocol

  • Most patients need just one appointment
  • Less pain and more comfortable healing than other surgical options
  • Kills bacteria without harming healthy tissue
  • Minimizes gum recession for a confident smile
  • 100% natural - no foreign materials or growth factors used
  • Safe for medically compromised patients, those on blood thinners, or those with diabetes
  • No cutting and no stitches leads to less recession
  • No bone grafting

The LAPIP™ Protocol

  • Enables the removal of solely diseased tissue, leaving healthy tissue intact.
  • Eliminates the infection
  • Assists in maintaining the height of the tissue around implants
  • Minimizes pain and discomfort for the patient
  • Close the periodontal pocket wound, promoting the healing process.
The LAPIP™ protocol is a safe and effective initial treatment option that safeguards other potential treatments. By managing peri-implant disease, it is possible to protect and preserve your implant investment.

LAPIP™ Treatment Procedure

  • A periodontal probe detects excessive pocket depth.
  • The PerioLase® MVP-7™ laser energy vaporizes bacteria, endotoxins, and unhealthy tissue selectively while also removing titanium corrosion debris from the soft tissue around the implant.
  • Ultrasonic scaler tips are employed to clear debris from the implant.
  • The bone is modified to allow the release of stem cells.
  • After the cleaning of the pocket is complete, the PerioLase MVP-7 stimulates the growth of natural factors that aid in sealing the pocket, preventing any new bacteria from entering.
  • The gums recover and return to a clean surface.
  • Bite trauma is adjusted as necessary.
  • Bone regeneration takes place around the implant.

Periolase® MVP-7™ Built for Your Health

The PerioLase® MVP-7™ is the only dental laser specifically designed for better periodontal health. The unique wavelength targets the bacteria that causes gum disease for minimally invasive, highly effective treatment.

The LAPIP™ protocol uses the PerioLase® MVP-7™ dental laser to help save your implant in the following ways:

  • The PerioLase® MVP-7™ dental laser selectively vaporizes bacteria, unhealthy tissue, and titanium corrosion contaminants in soft tissue.
  • Laser is utilized to create a secure blood clot containing activated stem cells obtained from the patient's bone, forming a sealed gum pocket.
  • Bite trauma is adjusted and creates the environment for the regeneration of bone around the implant.

LAPIP™ treatment: What to Expect

The LAPIP™ procedure will be performed using a local anesthetic in our office and can often be done at the same appointment as a diagnosis. Patient education and comfort are the foundation of your care in our office. Our goal is always to ensure clear communication of expectations for better treatment and results. Our team will explain all aspects of the procedure before we begin and provide detailed instructions on oral hygiene post-treatment to ensure the best possible recovery.

Depending on the type of implant, we may recommend removing the implant crown.

Once the area around your implant is cleaned, a tiny laser fiber (about the width of three human hairs) is gently inserted fiber into the infected area around the implant. The specific configurations and wavelength of the PERIOLASE® MVP-7™ vaporize bacteria triggering the inflection and stimulating the regeneration of healthy tissue.

Most patients can resume their normal routine that day or the next with minor modifications to support a successful outcome:

  • No brushing or flossing for the first week
  • Maintain a soft diet for the prescribed amount of time
  • No smoking or tobacco use during recovery
Your involvement is critical to a successful outcome. Our office will schedule a follow-up visit to monitor your healing and make adjustments as needed.
